Division 1.1– Gordon/North Sydney — 5 May 2007
The solid start to the game from Moorebank over at the Pennant Hills complex was an improvement on last week. Matt Little, Michael Jones and Paul Markou hassled the Gordon/North Sydney defence constantly in the first half which resulted in gaining some good attacking opportunities, with Moorebank’s first penalty corner coming within the first 5 minutes.
Kane McParland and Tim Arnold did their part by keeping the Gordon attacking runs at bay with some solid defence, with Tim in particular looking a lot more confident than last week. This enthusiasm from the young crew must have had a result on the senior team members, with Todd Saville back to his old tricks stealing the ball from his opposite number, and then finding go-to man Marcus Corrigan on the fly who was able to beat his defender and get the ball across to the opposite side of the field. Stef Vaivars saw the opportunity and charged in from left half to receive a quick penalty pass from Craig Walker on the edge of the circle, and from there he deceived the keeper with a well place shot to put Moorebank ahead 1 goal to nil at the 25 minute mark. Unfortunately Gordon equalised a few minutes later with a goal of their own, and the teams went to half time at with 1 goal each.
The second half started fairly even, but when Moorebank was reduced to 10 men at the 20 minute mark because of an undeserving yellow card the good news for Moorebank ceased to come. Gordon capitalised on their numbers advantage with the continuous pressure resulting a convincing goal. A penalty stroke a few minutes later was subsequently converted, but then Moorebank’s game was put into disarray just before the 30 minute mark with goalkeeper Steve Ford sliding outside the circle which resulted in him receiving his first ever yellow card. Tim Arnold put the keeper’s pads on for the last 5 minutes, but he could have done with a twin to assist to fill out the rest of Steve’s gear.
Final score was a disappointing 3 goals to 1 loss.
